Arsenal vs West Ham United Premier League 2015 Predictions and Preview Who Will Win 09th Aug 2015
Arsenal, who won the community shield, the last weekend, beating the defending league champions, Chelsea, will start their league campaign this season, when they take on West Ham United on Sunday on the opening weekend. When one looks at the statistics for past 10 years, Arsenal is the team that would be overwhelming favourites for this fixture. The last time West Ham emerged victorious was in 2006/07 season. Since then, Wenger’s boys have won 10 league and cup games against the hammers. Another fact going in Arsenals favour is that, they have only lost one opening day match in past 14 seasons.
West Ham on the other side has the dubious distinction of being the club who has lost the most number of matches on the opening weekend, nine times.
With Peter Cech in the goal, Arsenal has made some improvement in that area. However Wenger does have some injury and match fitness issues with some of his key players. Jack Wilshere has been ruled out for at least a couple of months with a hair line fracture. To add to the problem, Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal’s top striker last season, will also not participate after lengthened run in the Copa America. He is set to come back by the 24th of this month.
Wenger when asked about his feelings at the start of the season, was all positive and said
We won the FA Cup last year and we finished third in the Premier League so our target is very high.
“Our ambition is to win the Premier League but we have to sustain that by performance and fighting spirit in every single game. Before we suffered sometimes from the fact that at the start of the season nobody considered us at all because we lost our best players. That period is over now so we are happy to be under this kind of pressure.”
West Ham on the other side would like to maintain their success rate that they had in the first half of the tournament last season. Slaven Bilic was confident looking ahead at the season and was quoted as saying:
“We have a big season ahead of us which starts on Sunday. We are going to be good in the Premier League. I am very confident about that.”
Arsenal vs West Ham United Predictions Who Will Win
It would be a walk in the park for Arsenal, if played up to their potential. We think it would be 3-0 for Arsenal on the opening weekend.
Head to Head
Arsenal and West Ham have been a part of more than 100 fixtures. Obviously Arsenal has won more encounters but in spite of the heavy artillery that Arsenal has, the West Ham team has been on the winning side for 32 times, which says a lot of them as an opponent.
