Son of the former England Wicketkeeper David Bairstow is given a chance to play for England for the third Ashes test match to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on July 29. The inclusion will be a big chance to the Jonny Bairstow as he has been a prolific run scorer in the championship for Yorkshire where he scored a double century and four hundreds for this season.
After a poor performance in second test at Lord’s, England cricket team has been targeted and lambasted by British media. After winning the first match, England lost to a huge difference of 405 runs. Australia has managed to level the five match Ashes series with 1-1. England’s top order has been put to criticism due to repeated failures which has even been accepted by England Captain Alastair Cook during post match presentation.
Gary Balance has not been in any form going by his past performances. He managed to score only 134 runs in his last 8 innings this season which includes scoring only 14 runs in the second test at Lord’s when England were bundled out for meager 103 runs on fourth day. On the other hand, Bairstow has played 14 tests with average of 27 runs per innings. He appeared for England national team during Jan 2014 Ashes series in Sydney. However, Bairstow now enjoys strong performances in County cricket for Yorkshire this year by top scoring with good average to show. He has also scored a double hundred and four centuries to prove his strong form. According to Yorkshire coach Jason Gillispie, his batting average has past more than 100 runs this season and it would be a good for England team to give him a chance. However Jason also stated that opinions should not be piped based on past performances in County cricket because International Test Match Cricket is a different ball game all together especially playing against Aussies. Under-performing, Ian Bell is likely to be pushed to No. 3 spot as Bairstow in the squad. Joe root and Bairstow will come at fourth and fifth position respectively.
