Australian Batsman Need to Buckle Up Before 4th Ashes Test

After a recent loss of Australian team against England in 3rd Ashes test has let down many of their fans. It was a difficult game for Australia in Edgbaston as many obstacles were there in front of team. The team displayed a poor performance and now left to collect pieces ahead of 4th test match to be played at Nottingham. The team’s coach has highlighted some poor decision making done by batsman under English conditions and were not prepared properly for playing against loud Edgbaston crowd.

The team’s coach Michael Di Venuto believed that the batsman were not tough enough under the conditions where there was 30,000 crowd shouting and screaming. He also believes that the opening batsman need to take responsibility and stay tough while middle order should have produced a counter attack. It was a game full of noise at Edgbaston. He also admired bowling attack of the team and claimed that the Steven Finn, Stuart Broad and James Anderson bowled really well. All Aussie Batsman were bowled out by three pacers under a cloudy conditions and bowl moving around, so England never needed any assistance from spinner Ben Stokes.

Edgbaston crowd was major distraction for Australian Batsman and same was observed by David Warner as he said that the crowd at Edgbaston was noisier than football. The same was said by Mitchell Johnson as he ended with a bizarre ball as a response to constant taunt from crowd.

The Australian coach feels that Batsman need to make better decision while playing as to when to leave the ball and when to play it. They also need to attack the ball when required so that bad balls could get the proper treatment. He also feels that team needs to draw some inspiration from Peter Nevill, who was playing just his second test match as he learnt from his mistakes in first innings and played better in second.

Michael Di Venuto stated, “It’s hard to get 30,000 people screaming at training. And I’m not too sure Stuart Broad and James Anderson want to come and bowl to us at training. So it’s obviously hard at training to do that sort of thing, but we’ve all been in those situations before out in the middle.”

“That’s where the two guys in the middle have to take responsibility and get through.”
