Chelsea vs Swansea City Premier League 2015 Predictions and Preview Who Will Win 08th Aug 2015
Chelsea, the defending Premier League champions, will be starting off their campaign against an easier opposition and will be confident going in to the season. With only a few signings this summer, Chelsea might have a more settled unit as compared to its competitors. But with Diego Costa troubled by his hamstring injury, the decision to not buy an in form striker, might come back to haunt Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho however did get the Monaco striker, Radamel Falcao, on loan. Falcao could not settle in at Old Trafford as he would have liked to and misfired most of the time. He will be looking to make amends this time around and would like to prove himself in the Premier League. With Costa, coping with the injury, Falcao might get more game time and will have his chances to prove himself. But looking at his movement and display in the match against Arsenal last weekend, nothing seems to have changed for him. He still lacks that decisive pace due to the major injury he faced couple years back.
Another business that Chelsea did was to replace the outgoing goalkeeper Peter Cech. Asmir Begovic is the new substitute goalkeeper that will play as an understudy to Thibaut Courtois. Even if the decision of Begovic to join Chelsea was a bit of a surprise, considering the fact that he wont be playing much of a first team role, he would be eager to prove his worth in the trainings in order to attract the manager’s attention. With so many tournaments to be a part of, Mourinho will most probably use Begovic in some of them.
However if one was to go by their display in the recently concluded Community Shield match against Arsenal, the Chelsea unit did not look as co-ordinated as they did last season. Of course it might come back once the regular football starts but Mourinho has a task on his hands to get the lads ready in a week’s time.
Swansea City on the other hand had an impressive last season under Gary Monk. Monk has been a key figure in getting the results that they have been getting. With no real big names, Swansea is more or less dependent on the team work and the manager’s tactics. Swansea will be looking to cause an upset like they did last time around on the opening day by beating Manchester United. However, it won’t be as easy. Chelsea, even though struggled in the community shield, will be bigger fish for Swansea to catch. With their excellent midfield movement and cohesive unit at the back, it would be difficult for someone like Swansea to get past easily.
Prediction: Our prediction for this game would be a 2-1 victory to Chelsea.
Head to Head
Chelsea and Swansea city have not faced each other a lot, but as expected, the defending Premier League champions have been the one on the winning side more often.
