Glamorgan will take on Kent in the County Championship at Sophia Garden, Cardiff. Two lighter teams of the tournament will back their self to produce match winning performance against the other. Glamorgan will be leaded by the Proteas Jacques Rudolph and veteran English batsman Robert Key will lead the Kent squad. Both the teams have similar opportunity to upset each other and open their winning account in the championship. Two experienced captain has got little weaker teams to lead and it will be an interesting contest between these two teams.
Colin Ingram and Jacques Rudolph will be the Glamorgan’s main batsmen. So, they will have to apply themselves anyhow to do the run scoring. They should take the responsibility of scoring the runs as they are the most senior player in the squad now. Colin Ingram has been in South African Test team for more than a year now so he knows how to build the inning now and score heavily. Jacques Rudolph would also like to set example before his team mates to follow it. For that he would have to score runs in tuff situation so that team can get some confidence from there.
Robert Key is taking the responsibility of leading the Kent squad in the County Championship so Kent will get benefit from his experience of playing in the county circuit for many years. As a batsman too, Robert Key is well capable of playing a big inning which he has shown in a international cricket too few times. But for many years now Robert Key has been out of the national team. He may not come back into the squad now but he can prove that he is well capable of playing at the highest level of cricket now too. Sam Billings is also in the squad who recently represented England will be high of confidence but he needs to do his routine works right which is piling up runs in the county circuit. It is the only thing that can make him better as a batsman and will also help him when international squad will be selected. James Tredwell is in the Kent’s squad who has been ignored by the England national selectors and Moeen Ali and Rashid Ali has been given preference over him. His batting may not be like Moeen Ali but he is certainly better spinner than him. Tredwell can be a big threat specially for the left handed batsmen. So, Glamorgan need to be careful of him as both their main batsmen Colin Ingram and Jacques Rudolph are left handed. James Tredwell will facny his chances against them very much.
With more international players in their squad, Kent is looking more accomplish team on paper. But they need to deliver on the pitch too. Yes they have the players who can perform in the English conditions but they still have to perform. The game of cricket can’t be won on the basis of records. You have to perform each days to keep your supremacy. Tredwell can make the difference between these two teams. A good spinner is always a handy troop to have in the squad. So, Kent is looking much more balanced than Glamorgan now. Colin Ingram will have to fire for Glamorgan to do anything substantial for their team otherwise the contest between two low profile team can turn out to be a one sided encounter with Kent absolutely winning the race between them..
It would be quite interesting to watch out how teams will perform during the match and who shall come out as champions in the series.
