West Ham United was one of the teams that lead an exceptional upset over the weekend. The 2015 Community shield champions were grounded and dusted by West Ham when they beat them 2-0 on the opening weekend. Arsenal had no answers to their nemesis and were left wanting for pace at the back. This however takes nothing away from West Ham. They had everything under control where Arsenal had no real chance of getting back in the game.
Leicester on the other hand also started extremely brightly by beating Sunderland 4-2 on the inaugural match of the season. They were so good on the offensive that they had three in the goal in 25 minutes already. There was a lot of positives for both the sides in their first matches and would like to use this momentum to build upon the season. Leicester would like to be on their peak, right at the start, in order to avoid the scrambles, that their team was in at the end of last season.
Slaven Billic, the manager was happy with the start and commented on their first home game by saying:
“Yes, it is a bit special. It’s the first home game against Leicester, who had a great first game last week. They are on fire, they scored four goals, they just continue to play the way they finished the end of last season. They are very good at pressing, they react well when they win the ball.
They have a good delivery from both sides and look dangerous from set-pieces. You don’t have to be sloppy for them to punish you, but if you are then you have absolutely no chance against them. We have to be prepared and stop them.”
Claudio Renieri, the manager of the opposition has the idea of who they are coming up against. He said
“It’s the first match away so I must think about every solution and then I’ll choose the best XI. We play away so maybe we can play with three at the back. West Ham made a fantastic result at Arsenal – better than us because who believed that Arsenal could lose the match – nobody. They made a fantastic performance, scored twice and got a clean sheet. I watched the match – it was outstanding. I’ll try to close the space and try to win the match.”
