The first heavy weight fixture of this season is beckoning upon us and shall take place at the Etihad stadium between Manchester City and Chelsea. City has had an ideal start to the season, beating West Bromwich Albion 3-0 in an away game. On the other Chelsea had a horrendous start to the season where they had to drew 2-2 with Swansea city. But the loss is not something that will affect Jose Mourinho so much as is the absence of his trusted number 1, Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois was red carded for a reckless challenge over the Swansea striker which also resulted in a penalty which saw Swansea level up with the former champions. City on the other hand a near perfect beginning to the season where the strong midfielder, Yaya Toure scored a brace to take City to the victory. One has to remember, whenever City has done well and won the league, this man, Toure, has been extremely influential in it. If Toure can get back his form and perform at such a level for even 75% of the season, City would be a genuine threat to any team in the league.
In spite of having an unexpected bump, right at the start of the season, Mourinho denies to feel bogged down. He has also maintained an opinion of this being a match similar to anyone out there and doesn’t have much of an impact on the final standings. He said:
“The season is very long. Thirty-eight matches is an eternity, a marathon that started last week and ends in around 10 months. I cannot say it’s crucial, it’s decisive, or it’s very, very important, but it is two title contenders, and three points.
“If you can get three and your opponent zero it is important but for sure I am not going to say the game decides anything for the winner or anything for the loser.”
While talking about Mourinho’s team’s inactive transfer window, he said:
“You don’t always have to be a champion in the market. We do things when we think we have to do them, when we think we can do them, and when we think it’s the right moment to do them. Sometimes you have to think further ahead than the moment and many times we don’t explain anything publically because we work inside.
The board just gave me four years contract so we are in great stability and we work fantastically well.”
Pelligirini on the other side has been very calm and collective about the situation. He was high in his praise for Toure and said:
“I always say Yaya is very important for us. We can play without him, but it’s better if he plays. Last season he went to the African Nations Cup and the team couldn’t win in the same way.
He’s an important player so I hope he will be a regular player who will be important to our options.”
