No One Is Bigger Than Cricket, Says VVS Laxman On IPL Controversy

Amongst the countless number of controversies going on around the IPL these days there is a lot of fuss to be cleared. The BCCI is working hard to clear off the tainted image of the IPL which is now started to be associated deeply with match fixing and scandals. Former Indian batsman V V S Laxman said on Wednesday that the Indian cricket is sure to emerge out of the countless number of accusations and controversies going on. With the suspension of two teams- Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings from the mega league the IPL has got some blots over its classy image. But Laxman said that Cricket as a game was above all and although it is unfortunate that two teams have got expelled yet the game will come out to be victorious from these hard times.

Laxman said that the suspension of the two mega teams was greatly unfortunate but still the IPL has a number of positives to focus on. He said that the game in itself is bigger than any controversy. The main focus of the BCCI India, according to him should be only on cricket and how to make it come through these situations. He said that at the end, Cricket will be the ultimate winner.

With the ongoing frenzy around the IPL, the Supreme Court appointed Justice Lodha Committee suspended the two IPL teams on July 14 and debarred their two team officials, Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra, respectively, for life from any sort of official cricketing activities.

Soon after the suspension came a decision of the BCCI India that it would be forming a working group comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Rajeev Shukla, Anurag Thakur and Anirudh Chaudhry to study the judgment and plan a road map for IPL’s upcoming prospects.

Everybody in the cricketing field feels that the current scenario is certainly not good for the brand of IPL. The senior players feel that it is a setback for the young players who have been a part of the two franchises of the teams that have been suspended. The working group formed is expected to take a decision.
