Pakistan selecting committee has decided to test more number of youngsters ahead of T20 World Cup starting next year 2016 in India. The young Pakistan team had displayed plenty of talent and played amazingly in the series against Sri Lanka. Even former test batsman Shahid Afridi was filled with appreciation of team. The new young team displayed lot of potential in the recent series against Sri Lanka as the team was also able to secure spot for ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Pakistan team was able to clean sweep T20 series against Sri Lanka with 2-0 win.
The chief selector of team Rasheed also denied any problems in the team between Pakistan head coach Waquar Younis and wicket keeper batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed. The controversy had caused uproar as Sarfaraz was rested for both T20 matches following up his good performances against Sri Lanka.
Rasheed has admitted to not to jump to any of the conclusions and felt that the team needed to rest him as he was playing non-stop matches for Pakistan. He admitted that it was team management decision to rest him and no injustice was done against any player. He wants that no one should be judgemental about the team’s decision and said that the team wants to play different players and combinations before T20 World Cup.
“I think we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. The way I look at it Sarfaraz is our proven performer now and he has been playing non-stop cricket in Sri Lanka. Maybe the team management felt he needed a rest so they could give others more chances,” Rasheed stated.
“But anyway when the team returns home the selection committee will sit down with the team management and captains and have a discussion with them on the tour and find out why Sarfaraz was not played in the T20 matches,” he added up.
Among the tested players were all-rounder Anwar Ali, batsman Muhammad Rizwan and left arm spinner Emmad Wasim. The team displayed great potential, among which Anwar and Wasim played a crucial role for a win against Sri Lanka in thrilling T20 clash on Saturday. With the new youngsters tested, the selection committee has given clear signs to seniors that their position in the side is not fixed and selection would be based on performance. New combinations will be tried before T20 World Cup before finalizing the squad.
