Sergio Ramos move to Manchester United might be as close as ever

Latest transfer news and rumours

With only just more than a month left for the transfer market to close, the Sergio Ramos- David De Gea saga might be coming to a conclusion soon. There were reports recently in a leading Spanish newspaper, suggesting that Ramos has not yet changed his stance and is still willing to leave Bernebeu for Old Trafford.

The reports from Radio Marca, also suggest the same, but also add to mention that even Florentino Perez wants the Spanish central defender out. These reports were made on basis of Spanish journalist Pablo Garcia Cuervo revelation about Madrid’s decision on cashing in on the experienced defender. He was quoted as saying:

“Sergio has made his mind up. Florentino also wants Sergio to leave, but Real Madrid want it to seem like Sergio is the one who wants to leave because he isn’t very ‘madridista’. If Florentino Pérez wanted to keep Casillas, he hid it very well. The same is happening with Ramos.

In other reports it was speculated that United have asked the defender to go public with his desire to quite Madrid. Ramos is however sceptical to do so as this would mean a permanent damage to the relationship that he had with the fans and the club, which he built over past 10 years.

However the Madrid manager, Rafael Benitez, still believes that the star defender will not leave and expects him to be an integral part of is team. He expressed his confidence saying:

“For me, 100 per cent. I insist that it is clear for me and the club, Sergio will be here. Football is a curious world, but Ramos will be staying. I have a lot of respect for Louis van Gaal, but Sergio will be staying with us. He is our player, our captain. I would like to see him at the beginning of the season, because he’s a key player for us.”

Sergio has known from day one that I want him to stay and I’m sure that he’ll stay with us.”

However, him being the manager of that club, the statements are pretty obvious. No manager would go out public about a deal, this big, before everything is finalised. Also, his statement could be contradicted by the conspicuous absence of Ramos following their preseason match. The world cup winning defender was nowhere to be seen after the match.

In spite of contradictory reports of Madrid putting Ramos off the limits, this saga is entering its last stage and there is quite a good possibility that Ramos will end up in the new red Adidas United jersey.
