Wasim Akram Car attacked in Karachi
After taking recent bowling assignment with Pakistan Cricket Board, Wasim Akram was attacked as he was travelling from home to National Stadium. Attack was conducted by unknown people in Karachi, Pakistan. Bullets were fired at Wasim Akram’s car but he was able to escape unhurt. Akram was training emerging pacers of Pakistan in Karachi and taken up new coaching assignment with PCB. Akram was recently also doing commentary on various Cricket channels around the world. Akram was involved in traffic accident followed by altercation. During the altercation, some people fired bullets to Akram and it hit the car’s tyre. The issue seems to be related to road rage.
“A car hit mine, I stopped him and then his guy stepped out and fired at my car,” he said live on the media channel.
“He was definitely an official, I have noted the number of the car and given it to the police.”
Police investigation team informed that Akram was not an intended target but lucky to have escaped the attack. On the other hand, Wasim Akram believed that the car was deliberately rammed into his vehicle and Akram was not even on wheels. In the recent interview, ae said that car stopped him and a person came out and started shooting at the car. The car number has been noted and given to police. Karachi is the capital of Pakistan and considered to be the most violet cities in Pakistan based on the daily basis crime rate.
Wasim Akram is a world class bowling legend and has been all time leading test wicket taker for Pakistan and also the most loved sportsmen in Pakistan. He retired in 2003 and played 104 test matches with 414 wickets. He is currently given a role of bowling coach in PCB. Along with Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram was considered to be potent swinging fast bowler and created many histories for Pakistan. He was also part of national side for Pakistan, which claimed World Cup in the year 1992. The reason and aim of the attack against Wasim Akram is still not known.
Deputy Inspector General East Munir Sheikh stated, “According to preliminary investigation, the incident appears to be a case of road rage. But we cannot say clearly what the motive behind the attack on Wasim Akram was.”
“We have identified the car from CCTV footage and will have the suspect in custody in a couple of hours,” Sheikh said.
