Southampton will be looking to trun their season around afer a not so great beginning. After the performances and table position last season, Southampton and Ronald Koeman would have expected better things of this campaign, however, the season so far has only been a disappointment. So much so that Watford, a newly promoted team is above them in the league standings. In the first two matches, Koeman’s side has only managed to get a single point with a draw against Newcastle on the opening weekend and a defeat, a rather shocking one, against Everton.
Southampton are a part of the Europa cup and one reason for the unimpressive performances might have been these additional fixtures. However, Koeman refused to accept that and said
“Not now, because we are starting this season. There is no tiredness at the moment. It’s different, we’re used to having long weeks of training sessions, but we like to do this.
Games come very fast now and we don’t have really a lot of time to prepare for the next one and we have to recover and prepare. But we know we have good competition with the players in our squad, we can change without any less quality in the team. In the start of the season, it’s no problem. Maybe it’s good to play so many games because we need to develop, we need to improve, we need to do less mistakes. We are learning.”
With the reports of United scouting Sadio Mane, Koeman has been firm of no player leaving the club now. Also he confirmed that there are no new injuries while Florin Gardos, Fraser Forster, Ryan Bertrand (all knee) and Jordy Clasie (ankle) are still out of contentions.
Watford on the other hand have started of with two draws and staying unbeaten in both the matches might sound impressive for the newly promoted side. Quique Sanchez Flores, Watford Manager, before the game, said
“It will be an open game, not like the one against West Brom.
Southampton will come out and attack us, but I think we will be able to find space in midfield to attack them and do damage.”
Prediction: As the odds are more or less similar, it looks like that it might end up in a draw. The fans would however hope for an entertaining game with some goals and might have a score line of 2-2.
Head to Head
Watford have been a part of Premier League before and it is not their first time of being a part of the top flight football. Watford have faced Southampton on 74 occasions and have come out on top in 25 games. Southampton on the other hand has won 32 games while 17 of these games remained draws.
